How to Find Someone's TikTok From a Phone Number

By the HooDat Team6 min read
Short answer

Save the number to your phone's contacts, then open TikTok and go to Find friends → Contacts: TikTok lists the accounts whose owners let themselves be found by people who have their number. If that comes up empty, find the person's name first with a reverse phone lookup, then search that name and their likely usernames on TikTok. An automated social search does the last step for you, matching the identity against TikTok through relatives and location.

TikTok has no phone-number search. Every method that works is indirect: either TikTok matches the number for you through your contacts, or you work out who owns the number and look for them by name. Start with the free steps; most people turn up at the second one.

Use TikTok's contact sync

  1. Save the number in your phone's contacts under any name.
  2. In TikTok, open your profile, tap the add-friends icon, and choose Contacts. Allow access when asked.
  3. Look for the name you saved, or for an unfamiliar account that appears alongside it.

This only works if the owner allows TikTok to suggest their account to people who have their number, and many people switch that off. It also shares your whole contact list with TikTok, so if you only wanted one match, turn contact syncing off again in TikTok's privacy settings afterwards.

Find the name first, then search it

Most TikTok accounts use a real first name, a nickname, or a handle built from one, so the fastest route is usually to identify the owner of the number and search for them. A reverse phone lookup shows a free preview (masked name, city, and how many records exist), and the full report, at 1–3 credits depending on how much the record holds, gives you the name, age, and past cities.

Search that name in TikTok and switch to the Users tab. With a common name, narrow it down by what you already know: the city in their bio, their approximate age, who they follow, and whether their videos show places you recognize.

Cross-check usernames across platforms

People reuse handles. If you already know their Instagram (the Instagram-from-a-phone-number guide covers that), try the same handle directly at tiktok.com/@handle. Instagram and Linktree bios often link to TikTok outright, and so do YouTube channel pages.

Search Google for their profile

Google indexes public TikTok profiles. Once you have a name or a handle, these operators do the filtering:

  • site:tiktok.com "First Last"
  • site:tiktok.com "@handle"
  • site:tiktok.com "First Last" "City"

Let an automated social search do the matching

HooDat's social search starts from the identity behind the number (name, locations, relatives, and associates) and matches it against TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, which is how it picks the right account among people who share a name. It runs in the background for 2–4 minutes and costs 3 creditsper run, charged when the search completes whether or not it finds a match, and never if it fails. Results aren't guaranteed: if someone has no public, linkable account, there is nothing to find.

What doesn't work

  • Typing the number into TikTok search. It doesn't match phone numbers.
  • "TikTok phone lookup" sitesthat promise an instant match from a number alone. TikTok doesn't expose phone numbers, so those results are guesses.
  • Private accounts. You can confirm the account exists, but not see its videos, unless the owner accepts your follow request.

Use what you find to confirm who you're dealing with, not to contact someone who has chosen not to be found.

Frequently asked questions

Can you search TikTok by phone number?
Not directly. TikTok's search bar doesn't look up phone numbers. The only built-in route is contact sync: save the number to your phone, then use TikTok's Find friends → Contacts, which only shows the account if its owner allows being suggested to people who have their number.
Will they know I looked at their TikTok?
Only through TikTok's profile view history: if both of you have it switched on, they can see that you viewed their profile. Turn profile view history off in your own privacy settings first if that matters. Reverse phone lookups and HooDat searches never notify anyone.
Why does contact sync show nothing?
Usually one of three reasons: the owner has switched off being suggested to their contacts, they signed up to TikTok with a different number or an email, or they don't have a TikTok account. An empty result isn't evidence either way.
What does HooDat cost for this?
Searching and the preview are free. Opening the full report costs 1–3 credits depending on how much the record holds, and the social search that looks for their TikTok, Instagram and Facebook costs 3 credits per run, charged whether or not it finds a match and never if the search fails. Both prices are shown before you click.
